Over the Decades, Arowana is considered as a portrait of auspicious dragon, which believed to bring prosperity and good luck to the owner. Therefore, the Chinese regards it as the best fish of "feng shui".

In Malaysia, Dragon Fish is known as "Kelisa". It can only be found in a few areas - Bukit Merah in Perak, Bera Lake in Pahang and in some other primitive rivers.

Arowana is a "lively antique" to the human beings, which is given by the God of Nature. Due to market over demanding for Arowana, its price rose unexpectedly. For the enthusiasts of Tropical Fish, it is a curio.

Due to the decreasing wild supply and the popularity of arowana as an aquarium fish have pushed up the prices of arowanas. Therefore, many farmers are trying to breed this type of fish in captivity. Although there have been little success but many of the arowanas in the market today are from such farms.

Asian arowanas is able to grow up to 36 inches in length in the wild. A 24 inch speciment is about the largest one could get in the aquarium,

Normally spawning happens once a year, usually between October and March.

Its eggs are reddish brown in color and measures up to approximately 1.5 to 2 cm in diameter. The male will incubate eggs in his mouth. The male will still keep the young in his mouth even after the eggs have hatched. Often, the female is relocated into another tank when all the eggs have been laid to avoid frequent fights between the parents which could often injure the young.

Wild arowanas are hard to be found these days due to indiscriminate poaching. We hope that captive breeding will reduce poaching of the wild stock.

Currently arowanas are considered endangered species and are placed under the CITES list. Therefore export of wild arowana is illegal in Malaysia. A microchip is tagged to the captive bred arowanas to differentiate them with the wild stock. This method allows the law enforcer and consumer to positively distinguish the fish whether as captive bred or wild stock. Please do not support poaching smuggling of the wild stock to ensure the continuing joy of the exquisite Dragon fish.

Young Arowana is identified using Passive Integrated Transpounder (PIT) tag to Certify that it has been captively bred and aproved by CITES NOTIFICATION to the Parties no. 825
